It is not my intent to offend anyone, but I will not shirk from doing so if it is the truth that offends. I must speak to this. I cannot escape it. God has put it heavily upon my heart.

Before sharing my commentary, it is important to share excerpts from another writer (in this post, below) and teachings from a well-respected apologetics organization (in the second and third posts). My commentary will begin in the fourth post of this thread.

Excerpts from: http://www.worldviewweekend.com/worldview-times/article.php?articleid=6470
The compromise by evangelical leaders and pastors by spiritually uniting with “all faiths” with the theme of “looking to the one god”, as described by Beck, has laid the foundation for untold numbers of self-professing Christians to now embrace pluralism and pagan spirituality. Pastors and evangelical leaders literally locked arms with all faiths, including Imams, in a spiritual endeavor despite the clear Biblical warnings of II Corinthians 6:14.

The Mormon Church is now rejoicing over the public relations success that these undiscerning evangelical leaders have handed the Mormon Church by uniting with Glenn Beck in the two events that were promoted as spiritual.
Glenn Beck has accomplished what neither Oprah Winfrey nor Shirley McClain could. I believe that Beck used his conservative veneer and doublespeak to co-opt leaders of the religious right. Beck and these evangelical leaders have sent the message that it is acceptable for millions of “Christians” to embrace humanistic spirituality and paganism for the purpose of social activism and social change. These pastors should re-read Luke 17:2 where we read; “It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.”
Perhaps sooner, rather than latter, the world will be in massive economic, political, and spiritual chaos and a leader will step on to the world stage and this anti-Christ will call for the religions of the world to unite and embrace spirituality. He will declare that he is not about politics but about bringing peace, unity, faith, hope, charity, stability, freedom, and prosperity under the common god of all religions. This world leader will perform counterfeit miracles signs and wonders and those who reject Biblical truth will follow him [2 Thessalonians 2:9-12] and embrace his plan for restoring honor.

If I had told you five years ago that a “conservative” radio and TV personality would have millions of viewers, would talk about the spiritual battle being waged in America, would be a self-confessed member of a cult, would quote New Age phrases, would call for Christians and conservatives to look to the “one god”, would seek to unite all faiths and would convince dozens of evangelical pastors and leaders to support him in a spiritual service-you would say I was writing fiction and that this would never happen.

Do you now understand the magnitude of the spiritual shift that occurred this past weekend? The millions that see nothing wrong with the messages of Beck’s 8-27 and 8-28 rallies reveal that the religious left and the religious right will be easily merged together in the coming one world religion under the coming one-world spiritual leader as prophesied in Revelation 17:8.
The reader should consider the full article http://www.worldviewweekend.com/worldview-times/article.php?articleid=6470 from which the excerpts presented above were taken.

The text below as drawn from http://carm.org/teachings-of-mormonism is but a shadow of the full article. The reader is strongly encouraged to visit the link for all the information given there.

What Does Mormonism Teach?

The doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) are very interesting. Most of the 'odd' ones are not initially taught to potential converts. But they should be. Instead, "they are revealed later as one matures and gains the ability to accept them." The LDS Church tries to make its official doctrines appear Christian but what underlies those Christian sounding terms is far from Christian in meaning.

Following are the teachings of its officials throughout the years. Please note that these teachings are documented from Mormon writers, not anti-Mormon writers.

Atonement

* "Jesus paid for all our sins when He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane," (Laurel Rohlfing, “Sharing Time: The Atonement,” Friend, Mar. 1989, p. 39.).
* "We accept Christ's atonement by repenting of our sins, being baptized, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and obeying all of the commandments," (Gospel Principles, Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1979, p. 68.).

Book of Mormon

* The book of Mormon is more correct than the Bible, (History of the Church, 4:461).

Devil, the

* The Devil was born as a spirit after Jesus "in the morning of pre-existence," (Mormon Doctrine, p. 192).
* Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers and we were all born as siblings in heaven to them both, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163).
* A plan of salvation was needed for the people of earth so Jesus offered a plan to the Father and Satan offered a plan to the father but Jesus' plan was accepted. In effect the Devil wanted to be the Savior of all Mankind and to "deny men their agency and to dethrone god," (Mormon Doctrine, p. 193; Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p.8 ).

God

* God used to be a man on another planet, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 321; Joseph Smith, Times and Seasons, vol. 5, p. 613-614; Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, vol. 2, p. 345; Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 333).
* "The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s..." (D&C 130:22).
* "God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!!! . . . We have imagined that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea and take away the veil, so that you may see," (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345).

Gospel, the

* The true gospel was lost from the earth. Mormonism is its restoration, (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 182-185.)

Jesus

* The first spirit to be born in heaven was Jesus, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 129).
* Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers and we were all born as siblings in heaven to them both, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163; Gospel Through the Ages, p. 15).
* Jesus' sacrifice was not able to cleanse us from all our sins, (murder and repeated adultery are exceptions), (Journal of Discourses, vol. 3, 1856, p. 247).

Salvation

* "One of the most fallacious doctrines originated by Satan and propounded by man is that man is saved alone by the grace of God; that belief in Jesus Christ alone is all that is needed for salvation," (Miracle of Forgiveness, Spencer W. Kimball, p. 206).
* Good works are necessary for salvation (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 92).
* There is no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith as a prophet of God (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p. 188).
* "We know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do," (2 Nephi 25:23).

Some Mormons may disagree with a few of the points listed on this page, but all of what is stated here is from Mormon authors in good standing of the Mormon church.

Also from CARM, found @ http://carm.org/mormon-definitions, the following text which serves as an introduction to a list of words beginning with Adam and ending with the Trinity. Since only the introduction is posted, one must go to the link to read the list of terms to see the differences in interpretation between Mormonism and Christianity.

Mormon words don't mean the same thing.

Anyone who tries to witness to a Mormon will soon find that the words they use do not always mean the same thing to Christians.  Below is a list of terms that are important for Christians to know when discussing the truth with Mormons.  It is important that you know what the Mormons mean by the same words used by Christians.
At the bottom of the CARM article, a link is provided to a dictionary @ http://scriptures.lds.org/en/bd/a/contents (for our friends just becoming familiar with the internet and web addresses, that url is part of the official LDS site, “lds.org”). The definition under ‘A’ and for Adam @ http://scriptures.lds.org/en/bd/a/30 includes:

Adam is the Ancient of Days and is also known as Michael. He is the archangel and will come again to the earth in power and glory as the patriarch of the human family, preparatory to the second coming of Jesus Christ (Dan. 7: 9-14; D&C 116; HC 3: 385-387; HC 4: 207-8 ).

From latter-day revelation we learn that Adam had a pure and perfect language that was both written and spoken (Moses 6: 5-6); that he was taught the gospel of Jesus Christ (Moses 6: 51-63); that he was baptized in water and received the Holy Ghost (Moses 6: 64-68); and that he was visited personally by the Lord (D&C 107: 55-56).

Beck calls the nation 'back' to another Jesus, a different gospel, a false 'god' Empty Now, my part:

Post  Barnabas Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:57 pm

It is often attributed to Benjamin Franklin to have said, “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” We have a similar conundrum here.

If a believer in Christ Jesus, the one and only begotten Son of the One True God, fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, in whom salvation is found alone and no other, and by whom the full and total price for salvation is paid eternal for whosoever will receive by grace through faith in the promise God gives, not of works, will allow any cause to which he or she is joined to name instead a vague and general ‘god’ and espouse a diluted (and deluded) ‘gospel’ that stands against several essentials of the Christian faith as taught in the Holy Bible, then he or she is treading on dangerous ground indeed. One watching such a soul flagging back and forth in the wind might wonder whether he or she truly knows what the Bible teaches, or if it matters to him or her enough to seek it out and stand by it. For if one can say that the teachings of the Book of Mormon and those who adhere to it equally or even, as is widely claimed, more than the Holy Bible, are acceptable for beliefs held by one calling a nation back to God, then one obviously, clearly, does not hold Holy Bible truth in the high esteem it deserves!

This nation needs to be called back to God. Indeed! However, the nation must be called back to the One True God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, whose Son lived and died and rose again so that we might receive salvation fully through Him, not of Him “after we have done all that we can do” as is taught in the Book of Mormon. This nation must be called back to the God who says of Himself exclusively, “I AM THAT I AM,” not a ‘god’ that was created on another world as a man and rose up through the ranks until one day he is ruling his own planet and race of beings. We need to turn to the God of salvation who says of His Son, “In the BEGINNING was the WORD” and the Word is Jesus Christ, said to be the “only begotten” not the first of many born of a god and goddess.

It does matter which God we return to and serve! God is not a generic being. He is the one and only God of the universe. He must be honored in this way. Anything else is disbelief and useless, worthless in the restoration of a nation, much less the salvation of an individual.

If a man would ignore the importance of the key principles of the nature of God, Christ, man, and salvation in calling a nation back to God in order that he may win a restoration of Constitutional* principles written by man, then that man deserves neither the eternal blessings of God in Christ nor the temporal blessings given to this great nation by its laws.

May God have mercy on our nation over what was begun in Washington D. C. last Saturday, that upon Beck’s taking the stage and declaring a return to his generic ‘god’ all who know the One True God in Christ did not immediately begin to walk away but instead heard Beck out, hoping to sway by their numbers a secular government by continuing to rally under a leader whose ‘god’ is no more than an elevated man. That is what Mormonism teaches, and if you were at that rally but did not turn away, or watching at home and cheering rather than falling to your knees in fear and trembling, then you, too, were heeding the call to his man-made ‘god’.

It is up to the individual to seek out any matter through the Word of God (the Holy Bible) and in prayer to God the Father in the Name of His one and only Son, Christ Jesus, but in this matter I say that tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions, of American Christians need to repent and turn back to the One True God and Him alone, rejecting Beck and his false teachings as any measure of a man able to turn this nation to God (the One True God, the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob, and His one and only Son, Christ Jesus). Better to live under the most oppressive regime on the face of this earth with my worship reserved fully to the Most High God to the day my last breath is drawn than to receive any secular (constitutional) liberties in this life by giving even one breath of consideration or allegiance to any man who points his followers to any but the One True God!

*Do not dare say in defense here that the Constitution was given by God to the United States as it is a Christian nation for the Constitution is not wholly inspired and inerrant and in no way has standing next to much less in place of the Word of God!
